I have always loved the image from the old cartoons where there is an angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other!
The outcome of the character always depended on which one they listened to!
While the cartoons were meant to be funny, the creator was aware of something going on in their own mind. There are different
voices and depending on which one we listen to, will determine our experience.
To simplify this, imagine you get the quick impulse to slap someone who has made you mad,
One voice is saying “Go ahead!”
But the other voice is saying, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
You get to decide what you will do, but notice you had two very different characters bouncing around in your thoughts.
What I love to do is have my clients give their characters names.
There is the Judge, but there are also many others such as a voice that encourages us to procrastinate, be a people pleaser, avoid unpleasant things, or be a perfectionist, and more.
1- You can begin to be aware of the different character-like voices in your head. Notice their character.
2- Name them. This helps you separate yourself from the thoughts and puts a smile on your face.
3- Then begin to watch, listen, and call them by name. This separates you from the voice.
4- Then you can decide what you want to think.
So, how can you make becoming intentional more fun?
I help people become more intentional in their life, to connect to their inner wisdom, and using the Future Self model help them reach their goals, without the hustle, stress, or putting their life on hold. If this resonates with you, please share.
